Truck Finance Built Around How Haulage Works
Whether you’re adding a single 7.5-tonne rigid or replacing half a fleet of tractor units, Boost Finance arranges HGV and truck finance through a panel of specialist UK lenders. We look at the whole picture, not just a credit score: the truck, the work it will do and your business, then go to the lenders most likely to approve it on the right terms.

Ways to finance an HGV
Hire purchase
Pay a deposit, spread the rest over fixed monthly payments and own the truck at the end. A balloon payment can lower the monthly cost.
Hire purchase →
Finance lease
Use the truck for an agreed term for a fixed monthly rental, with VAT on each rental rather than upfront.
Finance lease →
Refinance
Release cash tied up in trucks you already own, or restructure existing finance, and keep using the vehicles.
Asset refinance →

Truck finance for every kind of operator
Established hauliers & fleets
Grow the fleet, run a replacement cycle or add vehicles to win new contracts. Larger fleets can be spread across more than one lender.
Owner-drivers
Buying your first truck or upgrading the one you run? Lenders look at your driving experience, the work you have lined up and your deposit.
New-start operators
A new company can still get HGV finance. Lenders look at the directors’ haulage experience, your O-licence, any contracts and your deposit, and usually ask for a personal guarantee.
Had credit problems in the past? Some lenders on our panel will consider past defaults or CCJs, depending on what happened and when. We’ll tell you honestly what’s realistic before anything goes to a lender. Finance is subject to status and approval is never guaranteed.

Deposits and rates were specific to this customer and aren’t guaranteed for other applications.
New starts
Plan for your O-licence financial standing
To hold a standard goods vehicle operator’s licence, you have to show the Traffic Commissioner you have enough money available to run your vehicles. This is called financial standing. The amount is set per vehicle and reviewed every year, so check the current figures on GOV.UK.
Finance on the truck itself doesn’t count towards financial standing, so budget for it separately from your deposit and first payments. We’re happy to talk it through when you’re planning your first vehicle.
Be ready
What lenders will ask for
- Photo ID and proof of address for each director
- Recent business bank statements
- Latest accounts, or management accounts if they’re more recent
- Details of the truck: supplier, invoice or advert, and registration if used
- Your O-licence number, or application details if you’re a new start

HGV & Truck Finance FAQs
Can I get HGV finance as a new-start company?
Yes, many lenders will consider new companies. They focus on the directors’ haulage experience, your O-licence, any contracts you have and your deposit, and they will usually want a personal guarantee.
Can I finance a used truck?
Yes. Most lenders fund used trucks from dealers, and some also fund private and auction purchases. The older the truck, the fewer lenders will fund it, so tell us its age and mileage up front.
How much deposit do I need for truck finance?
It depends on the truck, your trading history and your credit profile. Many deals need around 10%, established businesses can sometimes put down less, and new starts or anyone with past credit problems should expect to need more.
Can I get truck finance with bad credit?
Possibly. Some lenders on our panel consider businesses and directors with past defaults or CCJs, depending on what happened and how long ago. We’ll be upfront about your chances before any application, and approval is never guaranteed.
Can I finance a tractor unit and trailer together?
Yes. A unit and one or more trailers can usually go on a single agreement or on matching agreements, so the whole combination is funded together.
Should I use hire purchase or a finance lease for an HGV?
With hire purchase you own the truck once the final payment is made. With a finance lease you rent it for an agreed term and don’t take ownership. Which suits you depends on how long you keep trucks, your cash flow and your tax position, so check the tax side with your accountant.
Can I release cash from trucks I already own?
Yes, through refinance. A lender buys the truck or lends against it, and you repay monthly while you keep using it. Trucks that still have finance on them can often be refinanced too.
Does truck finance count towards O-licence financial standing?
No. Financial standing is about money you have available, such as cash in the bank or certain available credit. Finance on the truck itself doesn’t count, so plan for both.
Are you a lender?
No. Boost Finance is a credit broker, not a lender. Boost Asset Finance Ltd is an Appointed Representative of EFT Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 667290). We work with a panel of lenders to find the right finance for you.
